Trips

What are trips?

Trips provide information about a destination, such as places of interest, maps and itinerary creation which help you plan your travel. Your bookings made on BlackBook are also stored within trips. 

This is a value-added service that BlackBook provides to anyone who has an account with us. Anyone with an account on BlackBook can create a trip and plan their travels, even without making a hotel booking.

When you’ve made a booking on BlackBook, you will be asked to add your booking to an existing trip that you’ve been planning or create a new trip.



How do I create a trip?

A trip can be created automatically or manually:

  • When completing a booking, you asked if you would like us to create a new trip automatically based on the details of your booking. You may also select to add the booking to an existing trip.
  • You may also create a new trip manually, from within the ‘myBlackBook’ section.

You first need to be logged in or sign up for a free account on BlackBook to access myBlackBook.

On App

  1. First log into your BlackBook account or sign up for a free account
  2. Once you are logged in and at the homepage of the app, tap on the menu button (the 3 white lines at the top left hand corner of the screen)
  3. Tap ‘myBlackBook’ within the menu
  4. Once you’ve arrived at the myBlackBook page, you can click on the ‘New Trip” text button at the top right hand corner of the page.
  5. Now you will be asked to provide the following:
    1. Name your trip
    2. Trip start date
    3. Trip end date
    4. Search for and choose a city where your trip will take place (you can add multiple cities)
  6. Once you’ve provided the above information and tapped the ‘create’ button, your trip has been successfully created.

On Desktop

  1. First log into your BlackBook account or sign up for a free account
  2. Once you are logged in and at the homepage, click on the‘myBlackBook’ on the menu at the top of the page
  3. Once you’ve arrived at the myBlackBook page, you can click on the ‘New Trip” text button at the top right hand corner of the page.
  4. Now you will be asked to provide the following:
    1. Name your trip
    2. Trip start date
    3. Trip end date
    4. Search for and choose a city where your trip will take place (you can add multiple cities)
  5. Once you’ve provided the above information and tapped the ‘create’ button, your trip has been successfully created.

Can I edit my trip?

Yes you certainly can. Any trip can be edited as long as its end date has not passed.

(If a trip has passed it’s end date, you can duplicate it as a new trip and then edit it).

To edit a trip, simply click/tap on the desired trip that you want to edit in ‘myBlackBook’.

For App

Once you’ve opened the trip, you can tap on the ‘edit’ button to edit the details about the trip such as:

  1. Name of the trip
  2. Trip start date
  3. Trip end date
  4. Search for and choose a city where your trip will take place (you can add multiple cities)

For Desktop

Once you’ve opened the trip, you can tap on the ‘edit’ button to edit the details about the trip such as:

  1. Name of the trip
  2. Trip start date
  3. Trip end date
  4. Search for and choose a city where your trip will take place (you can add multiple cities)

    How do I create an itinerary for my trip?

    Itineraries are created within a trip. If you have not created a trip, you can follow the steps here. If you already have a trip created, please proceed to the steps below:

    Note that itineraries are based on the city(s) that you have added to a trip. If you wish to create a multi-city trip, please edit your trip and add the additional cities you wish to visit.

    For App

    1. First open the trip in myBlackBook that you wish to create an itinerary for
    2. Once the trip is open, click on the ‘itinerary’ button found within the column menu of buttons to the right of the screen
    3. Once in the itinerary view, you can search and add individual places of interest to your itinerary 

    Searching and adding individual places of interest

    1. If you prefer to add your own selection of places of interest, you can choose to search for places by searching for places within our database for the city you are traveling to
    2. Return to the trip homepage and tap on the ‘attractions’ button found within the column menu of buttons to the right of the screen
    3. You can browse through the different places of interest available by swipe the pictures left or right
    4. If you want to add a particular place of interest to your itinerary, tap on the ‘add to itinerary’ button on the top right of the screen.
    5. You will now be asked to add the place to a day within the dates of your trip
    6. Select a date within you trip and it will be added to your itinerary

    Alternatively, you may also search for attractions based on distance from either the city center, or if you already have a hotel booked on BlackBook for that same trip, the search will be performed based on distance from your hotel.

    To search for a place of interest:

    1. Tap on the ‘attractions’ button found within the column menu of buttons to the right of the screen
    2. Tap on the ‘search’ button on the top right hand corner of the screen.
    3. You can now search for places of interest based on set distances from either the current city center of your trip OR from your hotel

    For Desktop

    1. First open the trip in myBlackBook that you wish to create an itinerary for
    2. Once the trip is open, click on the ‘itinerary’ button found within the column menu of buttons to the right of the screen
    3. Once in the itinerary view, you can search and add individual places of interest to your itinerary

    What if I want to add a place of interest to a day that is not within my trip dates?

    The dates of your trip are defined when the trip is created. If you are trying to add something to your itinerary which is outside of the dates of your trip, all you need to do is to edit your trip to extend your trip dates.

    Once you have updated your trip dates to include the dates you want, you should now be able to add places of interest to those dates.



    Can I move an item in my itinerary from one day to another day in my trip?

    Yes you can, as long as it is within a day within the dates of your trip.

    For App

    If it’s a day outside your trip, you simply need to edit you trip before following the steps below:

    1. Tap on the three dots at the right side of the item you wish to move.
    2. You should now see additional options appear at the bottom of your screen. 
    3. Select ‘move to another day’, a calendar will now appear on your screen
    4. Select the day you want to move the item to by tapping on it
    5. Your item will now have been moved to the new date in your trip

     For Desktop

    If it’s a day outside your trip, you simply need to edit you trip before following the steps below:

    1. Tap on the option menu at the right side of the item you wish to move.
    2. You should now see additional options appear at the bottom of your screen. 
    3. Select ‘move to another day’, a calendar will now appear on your screen
    4. Select the day you want to move the item to by tapping on it
    5. Your item will now have been moved to the new date in your trip

    Can I share my itinerary with my friends?

    Yes, you can, trips are meant to be shared.

    For App

    1. Simply open the trip with the itinerary that you want to share. 
    2. Click on the itinerary button within that trip. 
    3. Click on the share button at the bottom of the screen. 
    4. This should now open up the default email client on your phone with the itinerary ready to share as an email
    5. Enter your friend(s)’ email(s) to send your itinerary

    For Desktop

    1. Simply open the trip with the itinerary that you want to share. 
    2. Click on the itinerary button within that trip. 
    3. Click on the share button at the right of the screen. 
    4. This should now open up the default email client on your phone with the itinerary ready to share as an email
    5. Enter your friend(s)’ email(s) to send your itinerary

    Why is there a countdown timer on the mobile app homepage?

    The countdown timer on the mobile app homepage shows you the number of days and hours until the start of a trip you have created within BlackBook.

    Trips contain information about your travel such as dates, cities, itinerary and any bookings you might have made for that trip.



    Can I make bookings and pay for the activities I have added to my itineraries on myBlackBook?

    Currently we do not have the ability to book the activities in your itineraries through our service. Rest assured we are working on improvements to make your travel easier.
