Grand Hotel Karel V, Geertebolwerk 1, Utrecht, Netherlands
All the rooms differ in decor but all are large and have wooden floors throughout and dark wood furniture. The bathrooms are medium to large and some have a seperate shower and both bedrooms and bathrooms are kept in very good condition. The hotel has a Michelin restaurant - the Grand Karel Restaurant, as well as a less formal brasserie. The restaurant is fairly traditional in decor and as can be expected, the food and service exceptional, making this hotel increasingly popular with locals and all residents of the Netherlands. The brasserie is less formal although still traditional looking with a redbrick floor and darkwook furniture. One of the brasserie rooms has an open plan kitchen. A very historical and tradtional whitewash building which used to be army barracks. The lobby is medium in size with blue leather chairs and sofa's and darkwood furnishings. It is sparsley decorated with white walls, tiled and wooden floors but is very impressive and offers the immediate atmosphere of a deluxe hotel while maintaining personal attention from the excellent staff. There are even display cabinets with artifacts from some of the soldiers that lived here when it was an army barracks. Located in a beautiful and peaceful garden, this ancient monastery was carefully transformed into a luxurious hotel and convention site with a unique ambience and personal attention. Opened in 1999. Historical buildings surrounded by 10,000 sqm of gardens in the city center. Central station at walking distance. Adjacent to the attractive medieval shopping center, canals and museums and close to the 'Jaarbeurs' exhibition and congress center.
